The Prescription Game

One of my favorite games to play is the "Prescription Game."

You play the game by moveing your prescription from pharmacy to pharmacy, collecting gift cards along the way. Every drugstore is fighting for your business. If you have insurance you can really rack up the savings.

Let's say I have 1 prescription that gets filled every month. Let's also say I have a $5 co-pay. Each month I move my prescription to a new phamacy.

Here's an idea of what you can get in a few months:

Month 1 Target $10 GC (Target will only give $10)
Month Rite Aid $25 GC
Month 3 CVS $25 GC
Month 4 Walgreens $25 GC

In just four short months I'd pay $20 in co-pays & get back $85 in gift cards to use for items that I would normally buy like milk.

To transfer a prescription, have your Rx bottle handy with the prescription number. Then call the new pharmacy you want it to go to. Tell them you to transfer a prescription to them. They'll ask for your name, the prescription number & what drug it is. They'll them do all the work for you, transferring it and you can stop by & pick it, without having to stand around waiting for them to fill it.

You can also, take your prescription bottle and your insurance card to the new pharmacy and they can transfer it then. You will have to wait while they fill it.

CVS will honor most stores gift card offers, just to keep your prescription. They are my favorite, by far.

Check your Target ad, to see if your store is giving a gift card with the purchase of Cheerios ( not available nationwide)

Buy 4 boxes of Cheerios
Use 4 of these $1/1 coupons here, here, and here

You'll spend $7 plus tax out of pocket & you'll get a $5 gift card back! That's $0.50 box after coupons. Rinse & repeat.

Use the $1/1 Archer Farms Deli cheese coupon here and buy cheese in $1 amounts to get it free! You'll need to figure out the weight which would make it $1. Based upon the typical price of $4.99-$6.99 a pound, you'd ask for anywhere from 0.15 pound to 0.20 pound. You can get multiple bags per visit (some stores have a limit of 3 to 5 of the same Target coupons per visit, though) and end up with lots of free cheese!

Target, Aveeno Deal

Target is giving a $5 gift card away, for every three Aveeno purchases you make.

Buy 2 2.5oz. Daily Moisturizing Lotion & buy 1 trial size. Use one $1.50/1 coupon & 1 $1/1 coupons from the 4/6 Red Plum. You're total should be around $ 3.63 & they'll give you a $5 gift card.

Rinse & repeat.

If you don't find the 2.5oz lotion, look further. They have 2 areas for Aveeno. I found mine a few isles up from the other Aveeno, near the Pharmacy.

Buy the way, you can use your 2nd gift card to pay for your order. You'll have some left to pay for part of your third order. Rinse & repeat. :)
