The Prescription Game

One of my favorite games to play is the "Prescription Game."

You play the game by moveing your prescription from pharmacy to pharmacy, collecting gift cards along the way. Every drugstore is fighting for your business. If you have insurance you can really rack up the savings.

Let's say I have 1 prescription that gets filled every month. Let's also say I have a $5 co-pay. Each month I move my prescription to a new phamacy.

Here's an idea of what you can get in a few months:

Month 1 Target $10 GC (Target will only give $10)
Month Rite Aid $25 GC
Month 3 CVS $25 GC
Month 4 Walgreens $25 GC

In just four short months I'd pay $20 in co-pays & get back $85 in gift cards to use for items that I would normally buy like milk.

To transfer a prescription, have your Rx bottle handy with the prescription number. Then call the new pharmacy you want it to go to. Tell them you to transfer a prescription to them. They'll ask for your name, the prescription number & what drug it is. They'll them do all the work for you, transferring it and you can stop by & pick it, without having to stand around waiting for them to fill it.

You can also, take your prescription bottle and your insurance card to the new pharmacy and they can transfer it then. You will have to wait while they fill it.

CVS will honor most stores gift card offers, just to keep your prescription. They are my favorite, by far.

Greenwell Scrapbooking Retreat

I had a blast at the Greenwell 3 day crop. I was thrilled to get out of the house & mingle with friends. That alone was worth paying for.

I also made several pages, so I was tickled pink. I haven't been creative all year. My mojo left & I was afraid I wouldn't get it back. I'm now super charged & ready to do more pages & try my hand at card making again.

The food was awesome (ladies, you need to share those recipes). The lodge was really nice, and sits in a lovely setting. Then Jen had some games & prizes to top off the already fabulous time every one was having. It was a total blast & I'm so grateful to Jen, Angela & Mandy for organizing every thing. You ladies rock!

A Family Loss

My Dear FAther In Law

My Father in law is one of the nicest people I know. I don't think I've ever heard him utter an unkind word. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer & it metastasised. Last time I saw Dad, he looked like a 70 year old man & walked 10 miles a day. He now has problems walking, getting up from a seated position and appears to be in his 90's. It's so, so, sad.

My siter in law Joyce & brother in laws Pat & Chuck have been doing the lion's share of taking care of him. I'm so greatful to them

Another Surgery

I had to have surgery on July 10th. It was unexpected...I thought they would just replace the wire on my left side. It came undone, and was causing a lot of pain. I was surprised when they wanted to redo every thing, on both sides.

So they replaced the tubes, wires and bags. I'm in severe pain and can't wait to feel better soon. The upside is that I won't have to go back for 2 months, if all goes well.

I'm calling Johns Hopkins Hospital first thing in the morning. I hope they'll be able to get me in the next day at the latest. Some thing happened to one of the wires in my back. Every time I move an inch, I'm getting cut on the inside. My kidney is throbbing & I won't be able to take it much longer.

I had to go to the hospital last Wednesday. It was a rough few days, but I'm doing a lot better. That was until today. I had a sever pain attack, and then a long bout in pain. You see, I tried to go shopping on my own. I should have known better.

I usually go shopping with my friend, Liz (love you girl) once a week. She does the driving, the lifting, the bending, the reaching & carries everything for me. She also puts every thing into the car for me. She truly is a blessing. With out her, I'd be stuck in the house 24/7 and going out of my mind.

I never knew I could have such a good time grocery shopping, and hitting up CVS (our favorite store). But I do...and it's all because of her. She cracks me up, makes me smile and gets just as excited as I do, when we find a great bargain. I have such a good time with her. It's the high light of my week.

So that's the last time I go shopping on my own. Next time I'll wait until my friend & confidant can go.

I received the cutest get well cards from Dorothy, Marcy & Michelle S. today. Michelle, I have to say that is the neatest card. I don't think I've ever seen one like that before & looked on hallmark.com to buy some. If I find my camera I'll have to post a picture for all to see. It's 3-D & stands up. Super cute!

I continue to heal & feel better every day. I've been having a bit of trouble sleeping. The stopcocks dig into me & it's hard to get comfortable some times. Today I did notice some small blood clots in my tubing. If it's there in the morning I'll have to call my doctor. I'm thinking positive for the time being.

DH is healing...very, very, slowly. He told me today that he's got cabin fever...so I'll take that as a good sign he's feeling a bit better. He's getting about 5 hours of sleep a night now, which is a big improvement from when he first had his accident.

Surgery

My surgery was a success, and I'm feeling better & better every day. I'm no longer in constant pain, just intermittent from them going in & out of my kidneys & from the sutures. Thank you all for the get well cards & prayers.

Now I just need DH to heal. He's still in terrible pain. It's just going to take time. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

When It Rains It Pours

DH fell off the roof & broke 3 ribs Tuesday. He's been in severe pain & nothing seems to be helping. He was so bad yesterday, he asked that an ambulance be called. So back he went to the hospital.

They gave him a shot, along with stronger pain meds & anti-inflammatory meds. We got him an electric hospital bed, to assist him in getting up. So far, it hasn't helped. He's been walking around for days...unable to lay down. He also has difficulty sitting or getting up.

With 2 of us down, things are pretty bad. We're both just miserable. My son is taking me back to Johns Hopkins Hospital for surgery on Wednesday. I'm looking forward to it. I had a massive pain attack last night, and again for about 4 hours today.

Things will get better, and right now I'm just giving it all to God to worry about.

I received the nicest get well cards, from my SBA friends. I was so surprised. Each one is like a giant hug, making me feel warm & fuzzy inside...especially on days like this.

Your cards were all so nice & will be cherished. I'll add them to my card album. They really made my day much brighter. When I'm feeling really bad & depressed, I look at all the cards I've received since I've been sick & it really lifts my spirits. Thank you again.

I've been feeling so bad lately & it seems like this rough patch isn't going to be going away any time soon. Last night my right tube was bleeding. It seems like the wires aren't right...every time I move a millimeter, I'm in pain. I guess I'll be making a trip back to Johns Hopkins.

I've had so many issues with this set of tubes. First I woke up in the recovery room soaking wet. We finally figured out I had a leak. After that was fixed I was wet again...another leak. Then the bags weren't connected properly. Then we had another leak. Then bleeding. Then bleeding again. The worst part is the wires though...they cut me like a knife. I'm not sure how much more I'll be able to stand.

I just wanted to pop on quickly to say thank you, and to ask that you keep me in your prayers.

Use to store your medications all together

Living With Nephfrostomy Tubes

I miss being able to take a bath. Since the tube placement into my kidneys, taking a bath is forbidden. I use to really enjoy laying in a full tub of hot water for pain relief, and for times when I couldn't sleep. The warm water would immediately relax me.

I can do showers now, although I'm not allowed to get the sites wet. You're supposed to use plastic wrap to cover the openings and then use heavy tape, securing the plastic wrap so that the openings can't get wet.
Since I can't reach the area I'm not supposed to get wet, I have to rely on someone else to seal it off. So, I just sit on my shower chair and scrub the front of me down and rinse the front off. I sure do miss my hot, relaxing baths. Gone are the days when I would lay in there until the water got cold. I could go for a nice, long soak now.

It is getting easier to care for the nephfrostomy tubes. I'm able to flush my kidneys pretty easily now too. I still have to rely on some one to change all of my dressings daily.

I'll have the tubes changed in May at Johns Hopkins. I'm not looking forward to it. I am, however, thankful that there's something they can do for me, to protect my kidneys. My Doctor is as nice as they come & a cutie, so that helps too. {wink} :)

I haven't posted in a few days. My cousin Carol, came up for a visit (thanks Shannon for that last day). It was just the thing I needed, to get out of the slump I've been in.

We drove up to Baltimore for my appointment at Johns Hopkins. We stayed over at the Radisson and did a little shopping & eating at the Inner Harbor since we were "in the neighborhood". I highly recommend the Radisson if you ever need to go to Baltimore for something. They couldn't have been more friendly & helpful. The room was also gorgeous. The follwing day, we checked out Arundle Mills Mall.

Carol was such a big help the entire time she was here. She must have loaded my walker in & out of her car a dozen times while she was here. It's not light either. She also pushed me around the mall when I got tired (which doesn't take much).

I miss her terribly already, and am so looking forward to seeing her soon.
